Two Greek companies that own and operate a shipping vessel were placed on a five year term of probation and will be required to implement environmental compliance plans to ensure they adhere to anti-pollution policies and regulations after dumping oily waste at sea.

The polluters were found guilty on 12 felony counts related to the falsification of vessel logs and oily waste dumping in the Pacific Ocean from the bulk carrier GALLIA GRECIA. As well as paying a $1.3 million fine as well as a hefty community service payment which will be used to fund marine restoration and preservation projects in the Pacific Ocean.
